Resource Hoarding is a Crime Against Humanity
It is time we start calling billionaires what they truly
are: resource hoarders. You cannot get to be a billionaire without hoarding
resources. It simply is not possible.
All over the world, a tiny number of people control most of
the wealth. If they were actually altruistic as some claim they are, this
really wouldn’t be a problem because they would share what they have and no one
would starve or be homeless. Unfortunately for the rest of us, there is no such
thing as altruism among the obscenely rich. Their greed is insatiable. For the
very rich, life is a zero sum game. There is only so much to go around, and for
someone to win, someone else has to lose. For someone to win big, a lot of
someones have to lose.
The fact is, there really is a finite amount of resources to
go around. But there is enough to go around, or there would be if not for the
resource hoarders. These few families (Trumps, Waltons, Kochs, to name three)
grab all they can get while taking great pleasure in the misery they cause.
They deny climate change and block renewable energy
alternatives at every turn in favor of the fossil fuel industry that fills
their bank accounts. They steal water to bottle and sell while children in
Flint, Michigan, haven’t had clean drinking water in years. They don’t care
that people die because they can’t afford their lifesaving medications. No one
should die at 26 because they can’t afford the insulin that keeps them alive!
The result of resource hoarding is that people die. Resource
hoarding is murder. Resource hoarding on the obscene scale that is going on now
is genocide. It is time for the resource hoarders to be held to account for
their crimes against humanity!
